Mr. Amara Aberra Worku at work

First, we would like to thank you for taking this interview, Amaha.

No problem. It is a pleasure.

Can you tell me a little more about yourself and what your background is?

Graduated in chemical engineering at Addis Ababa university

Specialized in process strip. (= different steps any production needs to go through. This ranges from preparation to the actual chemical controls.). I’ve always had a fascination and certain interest in how chemicals are examined, and which steps are needed to do these experiments.

When did you start working for Beconnected Industrial and how did you apply for the job?

I found a job vacancy on the internet in 2015. I was lucky enough to have an interview with Geert, Myriam, Jason and Lonneke. They were looking for a person like me that could run the chemical engineering department and could bring added value. Eventually they offered me a job to manage the effluent treatment plant, a kind of water purification system.

Do you remember your first day?

I had to go through a test period of 15 days. I had to focus mainly on the effluent treatment plant, which was new to me. I was often in contact with ETIDI to discuss the operation and the requirements, rules and legislation imposed by the government. I also did studies on chemicals and raw materials. After that I had the opportunity to follow training courses in Switzerland and Germany on printing techniques and chemicals. After 20 days of training I was able to share my experiences and train new colleagues.

What is your current position title and what are your responsibilities?

Meanwhile, I'm the senior chemical engineer for six months. I am responsible for ensuring that all requirements and rules are met during the production of our labels and prints. In addition, I am responsible for the quality of the production and the correct use of the chemicals. I also continue to work on the quality of the water used and its recycling. In general, my assistant does the tests and I do the final checks and controls.

Do you have any further responsibilities?

I notice that I am very interested in the compliance that must be respected during the productions. I am also very strict about it because there is a need for extremely good quality in our sector. In the future, I would like to have an even more decisive role.

Did working at Beconnected Industrial bring any changes in your personal life up until now?

Over the years, I have had many opportunities to gain new experiences. Beconnected Industrial always puts us first and appreciates our daily efforts. This is particularly noticeable in the way in which they let us take the lead and let us have a say. Over the past five years, I've also worked a lot with the other departments to ensure that you get the best out of each other.

Do you have any plans or dreams for the future?

I want to learn as much as possible and start my own business here in Addis Ababa.

Thank you for very much Mr. Amaha.
